Add values in one column and collate it to another

Hi there !

I am very very new to using excel.

I need to do the following :

column1 column 2
.5 * a1
.5 * *a2
.5 * a3
.5 * a3
.5 * a5
.5 * a6
.5 * a2
.5 * a1

As you can see, A3, A2 and A1 are repeated. I need to add the values in column 1 and collate to their respective values in column 2.

As a result i need to have an output in which the total of A1 should be displayed as 1 and the same for others. Please let me know if there is any formula/macro for doing this. Your help is appreciated in advance. thanks !!

i have attached a sample report..

I'm finding it difficult to understand your request. If possible, please create a sample solution on another sheet and share that as well.

Re: Add values in one column and collate it to another

Hello there..

Lets consider 3 columns

A B c
1 P3 Larry
.5 P3 Larry
1 P2 Susan
.5 P3 Susan

and so on.. each hour entered in column A is unique and i need a method where the output should be in the following format:

suppose if i want Larry's efforts in P3: the output should be like

A B c
1.5 P3 Larry

and the same should be for other entries like susan etc.. the raw data is huge : A2 to A212.. Please let me know if there is a method to do this...

If that is what your data looks like (as in your sample workbook, I suggest you take a look at re-organizing your data. Each cell should contain 1 piece of data, not 8 or 9, with each cell containing 1 value, summing data is simple, and you can use specific criteria to sum on as well.

If your actual data resembles the sample data you provided, that will be almost impossible to work with
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

Hi.. I have a separate thread going on how to split the data from a single cell.. but is there a way to check for spaces in the selected column and delete cells which are empty?

Yup.. you just posted my thread... this raw data is exported from sharepoint...

I wanted to ask you one more thing Fdibbins.. is there a macro which i can use to filter out a specific period (filters wont work anyway..) there are multiple cells where the entire content would be related to a specific period like:

P2
P2
P2
P2

Is it possible to filter them alone using a code/macro ?
