Can't edit code in in ActiveX controls

I'm new to VBA and I may be doing something wrong, but every time I try to edit or write new code for any ActiveX control, the editor refuses it. I'm getting : Compile error: Expected:identifier
It's working fine if I'm just pasting subs in there though.
Edit: It's working now but I don't know how I got it to work, would be good to know why it happened so I can avoid it in the future.

How exactly did you edit the code?
If posting code please use code tags, see here.
