Scan-in, Scan-out tool inventory with barcode scanner

I work in a large manufacturing facility that has tool drawers and shadow boards everywhere. Even with these drawers and boards, we still lose or misplace tools all of the time. I would like to set up an excel sheet that will allow us to scan tools out as we use them, then scan them back in when they are returned to ensure tools are where they belong. My idea was to assign each employee a barcode so that they first scan their assigned barcode then scan a barcode on the tool to check it out. The process would be the same for when the tool is returned. I would like to see a running inventory of the tools as well as who the tool was checked out by and at what time/date. I know this is a lot and most of us here are not excel savy. Can anyone give me some guidance on how to make this work?

    Welcome to the board!

There are numerous templates on the net for Tool Inventory. Pick one that you like and modify it for your needs.

Add a Sheet for of lists for Employees, Emp#, Work Centers, etc

Attach that workbook here and I'll add a Check Out/Check In userform that will record on the master sheet.

You can use data filters to reduce the sheet for a snapshot view.

Most bar code scanners are just input devices and will work inside Excel. (At least, the one i have does.)

    Sheet A1.xlsx
    Sheet B.xlsm

Thank you for the assistance. Again, I am a NOVICE when it comes to excel. So any help is appreciated.

Sheet A1 attached is a basic template that looks like it would work for our puropose. I am struggling in getting the two sheets linked together so that I can use the drop down box feature.

I would like to be able to scan a barcode assigned to an employee then scan an assigned tool drawer(work center)barcode, then scan a barcode on the tool itself to check out that tool. Then do the same to check it back in. If a time stamp could be created on check out, that would be great.

I attached sheet B because I liked the button feature. Something like that would be very helpful in assigning barcodes to employees, work centers, and tools, and to update available inventories.

I know I am asking for a lot of help, and will be greatful for even the slightest amount of assistance.
