Creating an instruction message within merged cells which disappears when selected.

    Hi,

I am trying to create an instruction within merged cells so the user understands what is required within it. Then once they select the merged cell it will disappear allowing them to type the answer. I have attached a workbook with the code I have used which works fine for an individual cell (E6) but does not work properly for merged cells (E5 and F5).

    Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum.

You're discovering the delights of merging cells. The overwhelming view is avoid them like the plague unless absolutely necessary. They cause too many problems in all sorts of areas.

    However your solution is simple

    Hi Tony and Richard,

Thanks for the replys and both were very useful.

    The coding is now working!

Is it possible to add coding to change the font to italics and colour to a light grey for the description and then once the cell is selected for it to change back to the normal cell colour and non italics.

    Thanks

I think is easier to use Data Validation with input message and have cells empty to begin.

Glad to have helped and thanks for the Rep.

Actually I believe Izandol's data validation offering is to be preferred.
