New menber needs a macro to open a template, save as with tomorrows date in diff folder

    Hi everyone,

I need to write a macro that will open an existing excel template file in a folder named 'originals' located on the computer desktop

    then

Perform a save as having the next days date as the spreadsheet (workbooks) new name in order to not overwrite the template
in the format mm day year

    like this: 06302014 month/day/year

into a specified folder on our C drive, (not a network drive) named whatever the current month is. So for example I would want to save the spreadsheet (workbook) in a folder called June

This spreadsheet is used 365 days a year and the month folders are simply called January, February, March etc.

This macro has to be very easy to use because most of the security staff have little or no computer experience.

I can program in HTML, C++ and am now self-learning V-Basic

    Thanks very much

    Hello shikano53,

    Welcome to the Forum!

Where is this macro to be run from?

How will the user activate the macro - Picture, Button, Ribbon item?
    Sincerely,
    Leith Ross

    Hi Leith,
    Thank you for the response.

I would like the macro to be run from the current, daily workbook that would be open and active. We do the Save as from the template at 23:59 (almost midnight) to start the log for the new day. It would be nice to have the security staff be able to simply click a button or select from a menu button. I am way open to suggestions as to the best way to accomplish this. I am not sure yet (I've only been there for a week) which version of Excel we are using. I sent an email to my supervisor requesting the Excel version we are using. Maybe 2003 or 2007. I am using 2010 at home.
Please feel free to ask me any other questions that may be helpful in providing you with any more information you may require.

    All comments suggestions open.

    Kind regards

    Chris in Red Deer, Alberta

    Hello Chris,

the macro could run automatically at a specific time, provided the workbook remains open. A manual option, like a button, could be included to run it as well. Using both will ensure the template is copied.

I can write macros that will be compatible with Office 2003 and later it's later versions.

Thanks Leith I appreciate your comments.
The Excel isn't later than 2003 and I think I would prefer a button that I can click on and confirm that the sheet has been created and saved and is now open as well as the one we are/were currently working in.

    Thanks
    Chris
