Error message when trying to record a macro - No Personal Macro Workbook

While trying to create macros but being very inexperienced at it, I have apparently messed up my PERSONAL.XLSB file somehow. When I try to record a macro, I get the error message: "Personal Macro Workbook in the startup folder must stay open for recording." That is after clicking the record macro button on the Developer menu, typing a name in the dialog box, then selecting "Personal Macro Workbook" as the place to store it.

I noticed also that the "unhide" button in VIEW is unavailable, so I must have deleted the PERSONAL.XLSB file where I can put my macros. And the odd thing is, now when I open Excel by clicking on the Excel icon (not from opening an existing file), the default filename at the top of the file is PERSONAL.XLSB instead of "Book1.xlsx". But, if I go from there to create a NEW spreadsheet file, it calls it "Book1.xlsx" as it should. How can I fix all this? Thanks!

    try this
this might work to get rid of that personal workbook.
when you hit excel icon it opens as PERSONAL.XLSB book as you said
you open another along with that say as Book1
now try to do save as with PERSONAL.XLSB file , a pop up will be opened where you can see the excel is trying to save this workbook and there you will see another workbook with same name PERSONAL Binary workbook
Now close that workbook without saving it, and go to the same path with Book1 and delete the "PERSONAL Binary workbook"
this is how You can get rid of that PERSONAL.XLSB workbook........

Thanks for your reply, but it turned out it was just that I had not hidden the PERSONAL file, so Excel opened with it every time. I hid it, and the problem went away.
