Question Spreading the joy - how to build in the add-in included in the spreadsheet?

    Hey guys,

Some time ago I received some great help from you guys helping me to develop an add-in...

I am moving on shortly and want to leave the guys that work with me some tools that they can use.

    See examples attached.

When my colleagues are trying to run the formulas that are contained within the add-in they get the following:

    ='C:\Users\ksieledczyk\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\AddIns\Count Colours - example.xlam'!TrackerTotal(Data!$D$4:$AK$55,'Design Totals'!C4,B4)+D5

So my question is... how can I get the add-in and the formula to "travel" together with the spreasheet and not being saved locally on the machine?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Bond002Count Colours - example.zipExample.xlsx

Assuming you have a network, you need to locate the add-in in a central folder and have everyone install it from there and choose not to copy the file locally. Then the path is the same for everyone.

Thanks romperstomper, might be an idea

What if I need to send the file externally?

You'd need to send the add-in as well (or break the links, converting the formulas to values) and get them to alter the path.

Re: Spreading the joy - how to build in the add-in included in the spreadsheet?

Pressed the "solved" button too quickly...

So I tried saving the add-inn on the served, changed the references in the spreadsheet, installed the add-in on my colleague's machine and boom, still doesn't work... This is what I get when I send the excel file over...

    =TrackerTools.xlam!TrackerTotal('Tracker - Podium'!$K$14:$BA$1329,'Design Totals'!C34,B33)

Any ideas why might this be happening?

I'm using Excel 2010, he is using 2007.

    Thanks,
    Bond002

You didn't copy the add-in to his machine in the install process did you?

Are you sure you properly repointed the function calls?

Re: Spreading the joy - how to build in the add-in included in the spreadsheet?

I deleted the add in from my machine, put on the server, installed it again on mine. Re-directed the formulas and it work well (slightly slower but this is what I was expecting). Installed the add-in on his machine from the server, sent the file over and boom, the stuff appeared as in my previous post...

    Hi,

You didn't mention if it actually works on his machine, or does he get a #NAME or other error?

Re: Spreading the joy - how to build in the add-in included in the spreadsheet?

But there isn't any path showing in the formula at all? What does he see in the Data -Edit links dialog?

(I assume his Trust Center settings are appropriate to allow unsigned add-ins?)

Re: Spreading the joy - how to build in the add-in included in the spreadsheet?

When I amended the formula I put in the full server location. When opening it at his it only refers to the actual file containing the add-in.

Went into trust centre and changed all the settings to enable everything and still the same #NAME? appears...

    I'm lost!

And the add-in is still showing as installed in the dialog?

Weird. Only other thing I can think of - in his Trust Center settings is the option to allow trusted documents on a network checked?

Well, I did remove all of the restrictions in his settings... I'm back in the office on Monday and I will check again.
