Command Button changes now cause Run Time Error 438

I have the following code in a separate module that is called from code in a Workbook_Open() routine in ThisWorkbook object.

I get a Runtime error 438 Object doesn't support this property or method at the line .cmdMaterialCtrl.Caption = "+". I get the same error at other places in the project where any thing happens to command buttons programmatically. The same error happens on all computers I use to run the code.

It was running without issue until recently. I have backups of this file going back several years and I even get this error when I open those old files as well.

What could have changed to cause this error to start happening on code that ran successfully in the past?

May be related to Microsoft update yesterday. It hit us all hard yesterday. Several posts regarding buttons and commands not working
