macro button can not be pressed or clicked

    Hi,

I have a very strange problem here and hope I could get some help here.

The macro on my excel spreadsheet (excel 2010 on windows 7 Pro) has always been working fine. When I click or press it, it will do the job as expected.

The last time it worked on last Monday (i.e. three days ago). Today, when I tried to use it, I am not able to press or click the button anymore. The cursor doesn't change to a pointer or a finger when I move it over the button. This is really strange I thought.

Then, I thought that perhaps I need to make sure I'm not in the design mode, so I went to the "developer" on the menu toolbar, select "design mode". When it's in design mode, I moved my mouse over the button and clicked it. It changed to something like "+" and if I double clicked it to see the codes. It's not there.

In the VBA editor, when I clicked on "sheet2" under VBAProject, I could see my codes still there. I'm really confused.

I then tried to see if this happens also to the new spreadsheet. So I added a new button in a blank new spreadsheet and put a simple code like msgbox "hello world". Then, after turning off design mode, I can see the mouse pointer changed to pointer arrow when hovering it over the button. I clicked it, the message "hello world" popped up. That's great.

The strange thing happens, and that is it won't allow me to put the button back to the design mode where I can double click it to access to the VB code. I tried to click the design mode to turn it on and click it again to turn it off. None of this actually works. The button's always in the working mode.

I also checked my activex control and it is set to the following:
Prompt me before enabling all controls with minimal restrictions, and
    Safe mode is selected

I'm at a loss. I don't know what else to try out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you very much

    Hi associates,

Your problem may be from a Microsoft Update that may cause corruption in Active X controls. The following link might help you solve your problem. http://blogs.technet.com/b/the_micro...-updates-.aspx

    Thank you Lewis,

I think you're correct because it doesn't only affect my laptop but a several PCs at my workplace. Only one or two are working correctly.

I will follow the link you provided. And hopefully, this fixes my problem.

    Thank you once again
