Cell keeps changing date to weird Number

I'm trying to format a cell to recognize a date as 01/08/2015 and I am getting 6/14/4862 after I type in the 01/08/2015 Date...

What's goign on?

That sounds like you are just typing in 1082015 - when you apply a date format to that number you get 6/14/4862 because that's the date if you add 1082015 days to 1/1/1900

You need to type it with the backslashes, i.e. type exactly

"01/08/2015" or "1/8/2015"
