Derive a list of Direct and Indirect Reports

    What I need:
A quick way to get a list of all the people who report to a supervisor, including all the folks who report to supervisors who report to him, and so on.

    Details:
We have a weekly position report with about 28 columns. 4 pertinent columns are FTE Posn#, FTE Name, Supv Posn#, Supv Name. The Supv Name also appears in the FTE Name category, becuase each FTE has a supervisor until you get to the very top.

If there's a vacancy in the FTE Name column, it's denoted by a blank.
If there's a vacancy in the Supv Name column, it's denoted like this: "VACANT: Posn 784512"

SO, the more sure identifier is the Posn#, which always exists whether the position is vacant or not.

You can assume the columns are A:D, because I can always adjust for their actual locations.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    John

    Re: Reports To

    John,

Can you provide and example sheet of the source data, and also what you would like the output to look like after the code has run?

Re: Derive a list of Direct and Indirect Reports

Sure. Names are changed to protect the innocent, but the WB is attached. For output, what I'd really like in this instance is to just get a one-column list of the top dog at the top, and all direct reports and indirect reports under him. Putting a "D" or "I" next to the person might be nice at some point, but isn't really necessary.
