Inserting a formula using active cell

I have a loop that uses active cell which I want to use to enter an if formula. Where it gets interesting is that I don't know which column they are in. What I do have is each columns marked in row 1 with a header name. So basically I want to use if column with abc in row2 has value x then take the value in zxy and make it negative in the new active cell. Any thoughts on how I might be able to do this?

not clear. Could you attach a workbook and give us some samples to work with?
Is it the macro that will put the new value in the active cell?

For instance in table below the columns are not in alphabetical order and their order can change in my sheet. What I want to say do is after I insert a column say after the d column I want to take make a formula that uses an if statement and the values in say column a and e.
