Assign fixed value to blank cell if adjacent cell is populated.

I've scanned several threads on this topic, but everyone else's questions seem to be more complicated. All I want to do is assign a fixed text value (e.g. "APPLE") to the blank cell of column "A", if the adjacent cell in column "B" is valued...with ANYTHING. This action would repeat for as many rows down as there are valued cells in column "B".

    HI, welcome to the forum

is there anything in column A?
What sort of contents does column B contain? If there are formulas, could some be returning "" (a null value)? If so, this is still considered "ANYTHING"

Thanks, Tom! This does help. I'm still learning how to make my questions more complete, and do have something to add. I'd like to put the command you wrote (above) into a macro I've made, so that it will go down (or up?) column "A", populating the text value"APPLE" into each cell that has a value of "anything" (alpha-numeric) in adjacent column "B". The number of rows with something in column "B" will vary with each spreadsheet, so the macro needs to determine the range of rows.
