I would like to open the excel spreadsheet compare program and have it compare two the two files and export the results. Does anybody know how to send commands to and external program using excel vba?

What kinds of files do you want to compare?
do you any example for that?

Two excel spreadhseets. Excel 2013 professional has an add-in called spreadsheetcompare.exe which can be ran and will compare the differences between two spreadsheets

I know how to launch the program using excel, I'm just not sure how to get excel to tell the program which files to select and then use the export results button.
