Auto_Open is not activating the Personal workbook.

    Hi Guys, Girls and Gurus,

I put the code below onto my computer and my friends computer some time ago.

Please Login or Register to view this content.
Both computers are using Windows 7 and Excel 2010.
When exiting Excel a userform would be activated, reminding us to back-up our data. This has been working fine for months. Today hers has stopped working but mine continues.

We have checked that the Excel “Trust Center Settings” on both computers are the same and “believe” they are.

On her computer, if we open an Excel file then exit Excel the userform “does not” activate,
On my computer, if we open an Excel file then exit Excel the userform “does” activate.

On both computers, if we open Excel then open Personal.xlsm, then close Excel the userform is activated and we get the reminder to back-up our data.

So, it “seems” the Auto_Open is not activating the Personal workbook when Excel is opened on her computer (is that even possible?)

    Your thoughts would be appreciated,
    Tina

    Hi TG58,

It is possible that Excel scheduling of Macros is disabled on one computer.

Try the following on the computer that does not work.
    a. Go into the Immediate Window in the debugger (CTRL G in VBA).
    b. Execute the following command in the Immediate Window: Application.EnableEvents = True
    c. Execute the Auto_Open() macro.
    d. See if the UserForm comes to life when you expect it.

Hi Lewis thank you for your reply.

I opened a much used workbook and then I followed your suggestion but when it came to executing the Auto_Open macro it was not avaliable.

As I mentioned in my first post, "So, it “seems” the Auto_Open is not activating the Personal workbook when Excel is opened on her computer (is that even possible?)"

I looked deeper comparing things on both computers and have found the problem.

The "personal.xlsm" workbook is stored, as expected, in C:\Users\KG\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART but on the other computer the sub-folder XLSTART is empty and the "personal.xlsm" file is in my documents.

I beleive her when she tells me that she has not touched it as the AppData folder is hidden on her computer, also she did not know of the existance of the "personal.xlsm" file or what it did.

As no other person has acess to her computer, I have no answer to how or why it moved, but having copied it back to the correct place everything "seems" to be working correctly at the moment.

    Tina
