What does mean This workbook contains link to other data source

Dear Friends,
I wouild like to know what does mean "this workbook contains link to other data source "
i have one master file thats updating by monthly when i open the time one message box showing with update. but i didnt understand why i want to update . usually i click dont update button . once i click update button suddenly my system goes to hang and automatic close and restart all file also i lost some file that was not saved

so please help me for how avoid this kind of message

The workbook has been setup to pull data from another workbook somewhere, if you're certain it doesnt need that then clicking Dont Update will continue as normal but really you need to check the links to see what its referring to...it could be that by clicking Dont Update for the last few months then your sheet hasnt been correct.

Im on Office 13 so it might be slightly different in 10 but clicking the Data menu and then Connections should show you which cells use data and from which other workbooks. It may be that the path to the other book has changed or it doesnt exist anymore.
