Mismatch error mystery

I have come across a problem that I cannot figure out.

I created a code that populates an array from two separate workbooks (B & C). However, when I run the code I receive a type mismatch 13 error.

It was suggested to me to set a range and pull the data from the range,instead of populating an array, which to my surprise worked.

But I am still confused. Why would I get an mismatch error while using an array, but not the range.

I have attached the workbooks in question.

A uses the array and produces the error (array)

A_2 using the range and works

B and C are the worksheets the source info.
