Databar macro based on dates

Hi, all,

I've literally hit a wall here and would appreciate any help. I'm trying to write a macro to create a conditional formatting databar of one of three colors (Green, Red, Blue) in a cell based upon a date.

Take a peak at my attachment for illustration. It'll be clear once you have a picture of it in front of you.

I want my databars to go green when the date to the left has not passed, Red when it does pass and Blue when it's 100%. Currently, I'm doing this manually and for THOUSANDS of cells. I need an automatic function. If you're familiar with the conditional formatting feature of excel you'll know how difficult this is. The only way I can think of doing this is to write a VBA macro behind the scenes. Does anyone know of this being attempted before?
