Save a Workbook with Multiple Passwords

I have a Workbook which is protected with a password. It dispalys the password entry box when opened allowing either the password to be entered or for the WorkBook to be opened as 'Read Only'.

Is there any way for the Workbook Password to be changed to a different pre-set password when the file is saved using a different name?

    Example
Say the Workbook is called 'Company XYZ Working Report.xlsm' and has the password ABC123. If the file is saved using the same filename, the password remains the same, however if I save the Workbook using a different name, say 'Company XYZ Public Report.xlsm' is there any way that the password could be automatically set to be something different, e.g. XYZ456 without having to manually reset it?

So effectively the password is automatically set based on the file name?

    Many thanks
    Thanks,
    HangMan

Re: Save a Workbook with Multiple Passwords

    Hi Faridwahidi,

Many many apologies, I always subscribe to threads by asking to receive notification via email. Quite often I never receive any notification that someone has replied and it is only when I take a look at the forum that I see a reply. This happens a lot for me (not sure if it is a common problem). Recently I received no replies to any questions over a couple of weeks and then all of a sudden one Saturday morning my inbox was flooded with about 10 emails, all arriving together telling me there were numerous replies, so I can only assume the site occassionally has issues.

Anyway, many thanks for your reply, the solution works really well, though I don't know if it is possible to make two tweaks. I would need the option for the file to be opened as a 'Read Only' file using this dialogue window, is that possible?

    Password.jpg

I wouldn't need the confirmation that the password is correct, only obviously an indication should the entered password be incorrect, I don't know if that is possible using the standard Excel dialogue windows or if that is not possible using VBA?

    Many thanks for your help...

Re: Save a Workbook with Multiple Passwords

    Hi HangMan,

    Here is what you want

    1. No prompt message if password entered accurate
    2. Read Only button
    3. Display workbook name before " Is reserved by HangnMan". If you change workbook name, it will be updated
    4. if user click on Cancel button, it will close workbook
    5. disabled "X" button on the box

    Hi jaslake,

Thanks for confirming, I was beginning to think the forum didn't like me or something :-) It seems very intermittent, sometimes I get instand emails, a lot of the time, more so recently, nothing at all...

Re: Save a Workbook with Multiple Passwords

    Hi Faridwahidi,

This is working well, however there is one small problem and that is that the workbook is being displayed before the password is entered. It ideally needs to work in the same way as excel, i.e. the 'enter password dialogue' should appear before the workbook is displayed at all, otherwise it makes the point of having a password a little meaningless because the user can see the content of the worksheet before having entered the password if that makes sense, but apart from that this is working really well...

    Many thanks

Re: Save a Workbook with Multiple Passwords

    Hi HangMan,

There are few methods to hide from others viewing the worksheets before enter password. I am more preferred to do this way

Please make Sheet1 As a default sheet, do not save data here. Once you entered the password, you will see other sheets.

Re: Save a Workbook with Multiple Passwords

    Hi Faridwahidi,

Sadly that isn't an option because the client won't accept having a blank worksheet added to their file. I'm afraid that is out of my control... Is it difficult to achieve without having to do it this way?

    Many thanks

Re: Save a Workbook with Multiple Passwords

    Hi HangMan,

Sorry for the late reply, no time to look into this matter. As I said before, there are few methods like hiding or minimize workbook and hide worksheets but Excel does not allow all worksheets to be hidden. There must be at least one worksheets in visible mode.

Thus, I think hiding workbook is the best method for you. Since you want to be on high security, I thought the Read-Only would also required password.

    Read-ONLY password = XYZ456
    Exclusive password = ABC123
