Problem with saving macro to personal macro workbook

I'm using Excel 2010 and I've been trying to create a macro to be saved to my personal macro workbook. However, when I try to store the macro in "Personal macro workbook", I get the message: "Personal Macro Workbook in the startup folder must stay open for recording."
I understand the personal macro workbook for Excel 2010 should be stored in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\XLSTART\, but when I look in this directory it's not there.

Anyone have any ideas?

it should be under "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART" if i remember correctly

Thanks for responding. I had checked that path you mentioned, but it wasn't there. I don't have an "Excel" folder in the Microsoft folder for some reason.

can you post a screenshot of that error message and explain at which point in the macro recording it happens?

I could post a screenshot, but it basically just displays the message I mentioned earlier.

I click the Record Macro button on the Developer tab and then I specify "Personal Macro Workbook" in the "Store macro in:" selection in the Record Macro window. When I click OK, this error message appears: "Personal Macro Workbook in the startup folder must stay open for recording."

Select Help | About Microsoft Excel...
Click Disabled Items...
If Personal.xls is listed, select it, and click Enable.

For 2010

Select File > Options.
Click Add-Ins in the navigation pane on the left hand side.
Select 'Disabled Items' from the Manage dropdown near the bottom of the dialog.
Click Go...
