Update automatic links to power point upon closing of excel file

Hi,
I have noticed that even though the power point file that contains all the data/charts pulled from excel files, it will not update it's display (on a monitor), until the actual power point is opened.
Is it possible to open the power point for a few seconds, than save it and shut it down again (through the excel file that is being updated - maybe upon closing of the excel file)?
I had an old code I used to open an excel file, retrieve data......
wondering id this code works with a pptx?
- - The application ran in the old file (Application.Run) was to copy, paste and manipulate sets of data, which is unnecessary for this file (power point pptx)

Any help and/or insight is greatly appreciated.
