Hi
Is there a way to view and log times from sound waves?!
For example.. Let's say I watch a video on YouTube of a dog barking, I'd like to start recording or live monitor the video for audio and log timings of the barks
Is it possible?!
Thanks

You would need some other applications to first extract the audio track, then convert the audio track of the video into data. Excel cannot do any of that.
First you have to extract the audio. There are free web sites that allow you to convert YouTube videos to MP3 files. This may violate YouTube user agreements so I am not going to provide links here.
Once you have an audio file you can use a tool like Audacity, which is a free audio editor. It shows you a volume trace over time that would allow you to see timing of audio events graphically.
If you need to do further analysis of those events you can enter them into Excel by hand. I do not know if Audacity, or any other tool, provides an export to some other data format that can be used by Excel.
Thanks Jeff ive looked at many programs like Audacity which I could indeed use to record audio and then take timings, but it wont automatically log them into excel 'live' which is ultimately what id hoped for.
thanks for the reply
You may find this helpful. Audacity can export to CSV, which can be read by Excel:
