Need help with methodology

Hello,
I am having trouble using excel to complete a task.
The task incorporates fixed data and user input.

Step 1: The user will want to enter the following information: e.g. a runway of 50ft and columns at 10ft, 20ft, and 10ft of the runway.

Step 2: The macro will search a sheet with fixed data with respect to spacing between columns (i.e 2 x 10ft, 20ft) and will display the data which matches those spacings.

The biggest problem I have is Step 1. The user will use a userform to enter input data with respect to the amount of columns, and therefore spacings; however, that data is not static. For one example, their may be 4 columns while another may have 10 columns. I cannot think of a way to accomplish the task except for user input as a string and then use text to column function under the data tab.

Hopefully someone has a few ideas to solve this. Thank you in advance everyone.
