Lock Excel from 3rd Party Applications

I am creating a survey utilizing Excel, and I want the contents to be "truly" confidential. However, even though I lock and password protect everything, by opening the document in another program such as the free "LibreOffice", anyone can "Show" the hidden sheets and view all the information, even without the spreadsheet password. They can even view the VBA. Is there any way to prevent this from happening?

Are you saying that if you password protect the VBA code, that it's still visible without a password in LibreOffice? Does assigning the attribute xlveryhidden to sheets help?

You might have to look into data encryption.
One spreadsheet to rule them all. One spreadsheet to find them. One spreadsheet to bring them all and at corporate, bind them.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but a sample spreadsheet is more likely to be worked on.

That is right. Hidden pages. Very Hidden Pages and the VBA code are all viewable. Of course, you can password protect the workbook and that encrypts it and scrambles the data. I don't need the workbook password protected, though. I just need sheets hidden and locked and the VBA hidden and locked.

Excel security is designed to prevent inadvertent changes by benign users. If you need better security than that, Excel is not your program.

excel is notoriously weak when it comes to protection. Anyone with some knowledge can bypass it's security
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you
