    VBA and Excel 2016

    Hello VBA-forum

I have 3 books about VBA:
John Walkenbacg: Excel 2010 Power Programming with VBA
Bill Jelen & Tracy Syrstad: VBA and Macros: MS Excel 2010
Curtis Frye: Brilliant Excel VBA (2013)

Excel have since 2010 two more versions but I am in doubt if the VBA programming has been further developed.
There are some VBA-books on Amazon with reference to 2016 and I would be happy if someone could give me information if it’s worth buying more updated books about VBA.

    Saturn,
IMO, do not waste your time and money. VBA has been a legacy system for some time now, MS, most likely will pull the plug out of it. The question is not if, but when.

    Interesting AB33
Do you, or someone else, have any ideas or thoughts about the alternative, what to do with the VBA programming in existing workbooks (when that time comes), and if VBA will still be available etc.

    Re: VBA and Excel 2016

Yes, VBA will be around so long as excel is around. The issue is then why MS has not updated VBA since excel 2007? It does not cost any time or money for MS to keep VBA, but this is then becomes a legacy programming. As you are probably aware, MS is moving all its office applications in to cloud. What we do not know and could be any one guess, except, the MS board, is what is going to happen to VBA. Will full VBA still available on the cloud as well? I do not know. There has been numerous rumours and speculation on the fate of VBA since MS has stopped up dating it. One of these rumours is that VBA will be replaced by another MS' products- I think it is Visual studio. But do not quote me. Recently, I have read an article on a website used by VBA developers. Lots of people who commented on the article felt relieve because VBA is included in excel 2016. The question is then- why do these developers felt this way is telling.

    Re: VBA and Excel 2016

    Hi there!

VBA is still a vital part of desktop Office applications, and will continue to be so in the future (imho). What is true is that VBA support is lacking in Office apps for iPad, iPhone, Android and web. Regrettably, VBA was never a feature in those apps.I expect any successor to VBA to be rolled out slowly due to the huge amount of programming needed to support the full object model. I would also expect code written in the successor to be slower in execution speed, at least until support for the new language is mature and computer speed increases have made the speed differences moot.As long as you do your work on a desktop computer, VBA is here to stay. The need to learn another language will not arrive until people start doing their work in iOS or Android devices, or on web apps.

    yours truly,
.. and don't forget to have fun!
    Bogdan.
