Cell linked to Microsoft MonthView Control not formatting date correctly.

Hello, I have set up a Microsoft MonthView Control drop down box to make it easy to select a date to input into an Excel 2016 (Office 365) form. The format on the drop down is set to dtpLongDate which correctly displays in the format January 1, 2000. I then have that date selection linked into a blank cell on the spreadsheet, but the date format in that linked cell does not format correctly. It always displays in the format 2000-01-01. I have tried setting the format cells on that linked cell to general, text or date, but it always displays in the format 2000-01-01 no matter what I change it to. If I manually type in the date it will change to the correct format Month Day, Year, but it will never display in the same correct format as the date drop down box when linked. Any ideas what might be causing this behavior? I have tested it in numerous different cells within a number of different workbooks, but the date format will not correct itself.

Did you check your regional settings? This may be this issue.

Regional settings appear to all be set correctly. Under "date and time formats" the short date is set to yyyy-MM-dd and the long format is set to MMMM d, yyyy. Nothing else looks incorrect.
