Looking for a simple app/script for quick copying from a browser to Excel

    Hi all /

I've been trying to do that myself but unfortunately I forgot basic programming that I did 10 or so years ago so I'm looking for advice from you

I'm looking for a way to do the following:

I have two apps opened - Firefox and Excel (or Open Office Calc).

1)I'd like to be able to quickly search a xls document for a link or an email address that I'm hovering over in Firefox with cursor. Instead of copying the link/address, pasting it in the search field in Excel and hitting enter, I'd like it to be done with a single hotkey combination. And it would be great if it could do that with a text selection on a page in the browser or with the content of the browser's address field.

2)I'd like to have hotkeys that would allow me to copy a link/email I'm hovering over, or a text selection, or the contents of the address bar in the next empty cell in the column A or B of an xls document (for example I press Ctrl+D and the content of the address bar gets copied to the next available cell in the column A, I press Ctrl+S and what I'm hovering over gets copied to the next available cell in the column B etc.)

Do you guys know any apps or script systems with good documentation that can help me with this? If there are scripts, can you guys give me some examples that I can change and fine tune myself?

    Thank you

I'm not entirely sure this is possible. It certainly isn't easy if it is.

Excel won't bind to key presses when you have Internet Explorer active (and it would need to be internet explorer, you can't automate Firefox without additional 3rd party controls) and I don't think you'd be able to get the text of what you're hovering over without Explorer having focus.

I suspect to get this to work it would involve some very funky API programming. Depending on what you are actually trying to achieve you may have more luck writing a browser extension
