    Overriding Default Currency

    Hello,

I have a macro that performs calculations on dollar amounts. Based on the input in the first spreadsheet, the macro will produce another spreadsheet with certain prices based on previous input.

The problem is that the default currency chosen (specified through the control panel) will always override the currency specified in the spreadsheet.

For example, if the default currency is $, and I specify pounds in my spreadsheet, the macro will spit out a new spreadsheet where everything is in $ (USD). I would like to find a simple way to override the default currency specified in the control panel, so that if I type in $, the macro will produce a result with $, and if I type in pounds, the macro will produce a result with pounds.

Please let me know if this needs any further clarification.

    Thanks for your help,

    J.R.

Is there a simple function/setting that can be applied to make sure the currency isn't changed when running the macro?

Without seeing the macro, it is a little hard to tell why the change is occurring.

The reason it is occurring is because of the default currency option set through the control panel. Just wanted to see if there is a way to have excel ignore this option.

Unless you show the code you have, it is unlikely anyone might be able to provide a specific solution, other than by chance. It is entirely possible that you simply need to set the Numberformat of some cells.

    Re: Overriding Default Currency

The solution would depend on how widely scattered your data are. If it is a limited number of cells or specific columns, then a workbook open event can be used to change the formats of these cells. Or you can kick off the same subroutine on a change event fired off the cell in the Control Panel in which you specify the currency type.

In fact ... if you had a conversion table, you could even switch from dollars to pounds or back again and not get just the formatting but also the currency amount.
One spreadsheet to rule them all. One spreadsheet to find them. One spreadsheet to bring them all and at corporate, bind them.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but a sample spreadsheet is more likely to be worked on.
