Alternative way to download attachments from outlook from Excel

Are there any alternate ways to download attachments from Outlook using Excel?

Currently what I have is a button in excel which invokes a rule in outlook that runs a script to download(replace if existing) the attachments for the week with a particular subject line in desktop. But the problem is that every time I run it the Outlook goes "Not Responding" and after lots of minutes have passed then only they start downloading. So I wanted to know if there are any alternate ways to download attachments!
