Expert advice needed: Will a simple UDF massively slow down the calculation?

    Dear all,

For my simple formula, I can use either normal Excel formulas or a custom function UDF.

    The excel formula is:

So now I can simply type: =ZScore(A1,"MCap") which return the same result as that from the Excel formula.

My question is: if I apply this UDF to 5000 rows and 50 columns, will the calculation be massively slowed down?

Many thanks for your expert advice.

I would expect inbuilt functions to be quicker than a UDF.

Best way would be to try it on a copy of the workbook and see what the impact is.

Thanks, TMS. It is very true. I did a test and found UDF is much slower than inbuilt function.
