Can you explain more about these rules? How can a group be identified? Is there some hierarchy of groups?2) In Colum I -- x belongs to the group so the group should be marked all x (hope you get what the group is)
3) In Colum J Since the group belong to some other group it should also be marked x

If your problem is solved, pls mark the thread SOLVED (see Thread Tools in the menu above). Thank you!
If you think design is an expensive waste of time, try doing without ...
Group are sepreted by empty row ...
the 1st group has 4 items ..
2nd has 9 items ..
In the EXL u can see the rules how It should be @ the end ...

what is required in column K. You have written same as step2. But the results shown are different.
Ok, rules 1,2,4 and 5 are clear (I hope) and can be done with simple formulas.
Still struggling with rule 3: "Since the group belong to some other group it should also be marked x"
What makes a group belong to an other group?
same as 2) It means again all should be marked as x
For example (C43) in the group there is 410 and also in another group (C13) (Since there was no x in that group now it should have x) ... and again the group should be filled with x since it has one x ...
Hope i have cleared something ..
(It is pretty tricky)
Why K18,K19 & K20 are not having x.
oooooops ... offcours they should .... sorry my fault ... Dont know how i missed it !
Not quite sure if I got it now, but this is my try.
There are some differences though. Not sure if they come from the formulas or just typos.
Added a helper column to identify the groups. Identifying them based on the empty would make it very complex.
Thank you thats was great ,.. sorry was bit late to get back .. to U ,... but How do I create the group ??
I assume you are referring to the column A. That's a helper column I added to have a unique identifier for the groups.but How do I create the group ?
You need that to make the formulas work properly. Identifying them based on the surrounding empty rows would (if even possible) be very complex and result in formulas beyond comprehension.
I entered the identifiers manualy, but you could use a formula to assign them to the groups.
Formula:Please Login or Register to view this content.
If you enter this formula in cell A3 and then copy it all the way down, it will give you numeric identifiers which have the same effect as the character identifiers.
Are the differences in the yellow marked cells correct or is there an error in the formulas?
@Tsjallie,. Is it possible to change the formula by using variables , since I have different types of data ,..
Refresh my memory. What values in what formula would you like to replace with variables?
yes ,.. because length of the coloum varies ,... some are short ... some are long ...
I really don't have a clue of what you're after.
The only differences in length of columns (as far as I can see) are for the groups. These vary, but that's solved with the group id.
I am working on it ... dont know exactly wat I want for my reserch ... !! will get back to u soon !! thanK u for Ur kind help Tsjallie..
Can you describe the problem you're facing.dont know exactly wat I want for my reserch
May be I can help finding a solution.
