Excel add in for financial data?

    Hello,

I have made a quite extensive excel stock spreadsheet for my own use. It's based on 10 years of financial data taken from the income statements and balance sheet from the companies. So far I have only copy and paste the data from morningstar key ratios webpage: http://financials.morningstar.com/ra...&culture=en-US

Now the problem is that morningstar will probably shut down these pages so my copy and paste method will probably not work anymore

I also want to share the spreadsheet with other people but it will be a hassle if morningstar shut down this page.

So my qeuestion is if it exist other webpages that offers 10 years of financial data for free? If not are there some excel plugins that can give me this data for free? Who provide this?

I would like to have my spreadsheet setup so that the user only need to type in the stock ticker and then the financial data should be automatically imported. Possible? Also possible that more users than me is using the excel add in?

Sorry for all the questions, but I really struggle to figure this thing out. Thankful for all help.

Have you tried Google or Yahoo finance? Web scarping is the discretion of the site's owner. Nowadays, it is becoming common to provide data through API. Using API is much better and easier to extract data from a site. Yes, most of API's have download restrictions. You should ask the owner if they have an API. For e.g. Facebook and Twitter have.
You should also consider using different tools. Python has much better functionality than excel VBA. There are also third-parties tools- some of them are free while others are commercial.

No have not tried google or yahoo. I checked them out now and I can see that they only provide a few years of annual financial data. Not 10 years like morningstar does. I have no idea why morningstar still offers 10y of financial data for free. If you know other sources of 10 years of financial data please tell me. So it seems like best option is API? seems like it cost quite much

Well, most API's I know of are free. I do not know any other site that provides 10 years of data.
