    Form based student grade book

    Hi there!

I'm trying to put together a system to track my students' results as they go through different courses in my department.
Please see the attached file as the system is explained there. I believe I need a series of forms creating, with a flat file database back end, however I have limited knowledge of forms in excel.

Cohorts of up to 16 students go through at a time.
I need a way to grade all of these students, see a quick look at their grades, and then archive once everything is populated. We do not have MS Access at my school, which would be the logical program, so I'm looking at excel for an alternative.

    1) I populate the lesson catalogue with any new lessons I write, how long the assessments should take, and a unique lesson ID.
    2) These are then grouped into courses in the course map. I may wish for a lesson to appear in many courses.
    3) Next I enrol students in blocks of up to 16. These will become my active students until their scores are archived and the system reset.
    4) I add the active students' grades to the gradebook.
    5) I archive the cohorts' data and the system is cleared for further use.

Notes: ~I only ever have one active class at one time.
~ I am not precious about the different tabs. If it's more logical to arrange things differently, then please go ahead.

I have a beginner's knowledge of VBA and macros, however I have never delved deeper into the form based capability of Excel. Could someone also suggest a course/resource where I could start to build these form skills for the future?

You should look at getting ms Access, since its relatively free for education centers.
I have a working db but its too large to load here. (even compacted)

Can I customise forms on Access to display data which is calculated with formulas? I.e, If I want to actively monitor my class' grades from a dashboard; and compare and contrast between them.

I can probably get Access runtime by jumping through a lot of hoops - will this suffice? or will I need the full programme on my work machine?
