    Component Not Correctly Registered

Hi all, I'm using Excel 2003 and have recently updated to Windows 10 Creators Update and since then my VBA has not been working properly. It seems to have problems with spreadsheets that have userforms in it. And when I create a new VBA project and try to add a form I get 'Component Not Correctly Registered'.

Could someone help with this please (I tried ideas off Google last week but made no difference (Repairing excel / uninstalling VBA / Reinstalling VBA makes no difference). Thanks, John

    Hi John,

Your problem may be related to the following: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...solution-after

See the Handling outdated extenders section at the bottom of the above reference:

.exd extension files may have to be deleted (with all Office programs closed) from the following folders:

There is also a file Excel.BOX which may have to be deleted.

    %appdata%\microsoft\forms
    %temp%\excel8.0
    %temp%\word8.0
    %temp%\PPT11.0
    %temp%\vbe

    On my Desktop computer:
    %TEMP% is C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp
    %APPDATA% is C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming

I can find all the files in the 'cmd.exe' window on my computer using:
Please Login or Register to view this content.

The above worked for me a couple of years ago after the dreaded December, 2014 Microsoft update.

    I hope this helps.

    Re: Component Not Correctly Registered

Hi, thank you for your reply. I have tried your suggestion but unfortunately that doesn't work. I do however have a bit more info after playing around. It does seem to be a problem with my user account because if I log in as Administrator, the forms work perfectly.

Also, if I run CMD and do 'excel.exe \unregserver' and then 'excel.exe \regserver' excel then throws up an error of...

'One of your object libraries {|} is missing or damaged. Please run Setup to install it.

*After clicking OK on that I get ...

'One of your object libraries (vbaen32.olb) is missing or damaged. Please run Setup to install it.'

*The Windows installer then runs and I'm guessing its trying to fix this problem. It finishes that process but I am no better off

I'm not sure if that file is actually causing my problem or not! I can only find one place that it is located (C:\Windows\SysWOW64), and I renamed that file (and it recreated itself when repair was done) but I would have thought if that was the issue then it would affect all my user accounts?)

Further Updates - it makes no difference if I change my user account to be part of the Administrators group.

Also - the forms WORK in Word, so it seems its only Excel which is having the problem. Which makes it even more bizarre as I thought they would use the same file?

    Re: Component Not Correctly Registered

On my Windows 10 computer (Excel 2016 only) I have vbaen32.olb in the same SysWOW64 folder as you March 24, 1998 1:44PM Modified Date (size 24.2KB)

On my Windows 8.1 computer which used to have Excel 2003, there is no such file. I believe I had to remove Excel 2003 when I installed Excel 2016, because Excel 2003 had some kind of error with Excel 2016 installed. I love Excel 2003, but did not want to fight with Windows, so I uninstalled it, and after several months I now love Excel 2016.

Back to your problem. I'm no Windows expert. I would look right click on vbaen32.olb in Windows Explorer, and check the security tab. On my Windows 10 computer, 'Normal Users' HAVE 'Read' privileges, and 'read & execute' privileges. Administrators have all privileges EXCEPT 'special permissions'.

Another alternative is to try to run Excel ALWAYS as Administrator. See https://www.cnet.com/how-to/always-r...in-windows-10/

Threads with multiple responses rarely get looked at by experienced users. If changing privileges for 'Normal Users' does not solve your problem, I would wait a couple of days, and then start a new thread that contains the additional information from your most recent post, in addition to your original problem. An uploaded picture of the error you get would probably also help. To avoid getting yelled at by the moderators for a 'duplicate post', add a link to this thread.
