    Lightbulb Need Help to create a program

    Hi all,

    I am working in a college and trying to create a simple system to assign each student to which major(s) they belong to based on what subjects they took. The conditions are:

    1. Students have to complete 24 subjects in one degree program (eg. Bachelor of Business)
    2. There are 9 majors to choose. Students have to choose minimum of one major, maximum two majors
    3. Each major contain 8 subjects.
    4. There are 7 subjects that are the compulsory. Which mean all students are required to take these 7 subjects regardless what major they choose.

    If student choose to take one major, their subjects will be = 7 compulsory subjects + 8 Major subjects + 9 electives subjects =24 subjects
    If student choose to take two major, their subjects will be = 7 compulsory subjects + 8 Major one subjects + 8 Major two subjects + 1 elective = 24 subjects

    The final program would be like a form where I enter all the 24 subjects they took, and the system will match it with the correct Major(s).

    May I know what formula should I use. I have almost 800 students and to do this manually will took a lot of time and counter productive.

    It is not a case of us giving you one magic formula. This is an entire project requiring VBA for a user form and a lot of back-end calculation. What help do you need? Which bits of this are you stuck on? Can you show us what you have so far (in terms of the back-end workbook)?

    NB If you are wanting someone to realise the entire project for you rather then helping you to realise it yourself, then it would be more appropriate to post in the commercial services section.

    Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one and nobody wants to have to recreate your data from scratch.

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired results are also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

    Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

    Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.
