Is there a way to set the specific text “discontinued item” in Red font color by setting it in conditional formatting?
Select the column & use this formula
=$J1="discontinued item"
then select your format.
Change the J1 to which ever column you want
Hi Fluff13
Where do i set the code?
Tnx
Home tab > Conditional Formatting > New Rule > Use a formula
Ok... do i need to do this each cell and drag it down after i ser the formula or just each cell where the specific text is being placed?
Tnx
Just highlight the entire column first & then set the formatting
Just wondering... don’t i need to specify the name of the sheet which is the “code” sheet? I just don’t want to affect the other sheet.
Thanks
I tried to select new rules and there is a bunch of selection for me to put in the =$K8="discontinued item", I don't really know which to select. I am not too familiar with the conditional formatting... please help.
Thanks
You need to select Use a formula after new rule
Hi
I did select the “use a formula” but it did not work.
First I highlighted the ccolumn C from the item sheet, then After from the conditional setting I selected new rule, i selected the use a formula, then i type the =$K8=“DISCONTINUED CODE”... the K8 from the Code sheet did not change the color.
Thanks
If you select the entire column the you need to use =$K1
If you only want it to work on a particular area, then select the area rather then the column & use =$K8 where the 8 is the first row of the selected area
Having had a look at your file.
On sheet "Item", select column C & use this formula
=C1=' CODES '!$K$8
There needs to be 4 spaces before CODES & a further 4 spaces after
Hi Fluff13
It did not work. I tried to use the formula.
thanks.
The "discontinued item" from the CODE sheet in cell K8 did not change to color red although I place the code in Item sheet from C1 all the way down.
What sheets do you want this to work on?
Can you please look at the file I attached and tell me if is possible to get it done.
Thanks.
a) I have already done that, see post#13
b) Can you answer post#16
Hi,
sorry...
What sheets do you want this to work on? Answer: CODE worksheet in K8. I want the "DISCONTINUED" as a specific text only. See Item sheet where I listed the list.
thanks.
So all you want to do is change K8 to red if it says Discontinued Item.
Is that correct?
Hi.... Yes
Can you send me the attachment after you work on it? I tried all the code and the step you told me but It didn't work on me.
Thank you.

In that case select K7 > CF > Highlight cells rule > Equal to > "DISCONTINUED ITEM" > select format
I don't understand.... :o(
The last post should have been select K8 (not K7).
What don't you understand?
I think all of it.
The code that I need to use or where to put the code.
I guessed the step.
It's quite simple.
select cell K8, then on the home tab select Conditional formatting, then from the options that appear select "Highlight cells rule" then on the next menu select "Equal to", in the pop-up that appears type "DISCONTINUED ITEM" into the left hand box, then select the format you want in the right hand box & click OK.
Hi,
I followed your instructions. It did change the color to red for once but once I selected another item and go back to it. It change the color to regular color.
That's because you have a worksheet event that deletes the conditional formatting
Is there a way you can fix the code?
