    Excel 2016 not opening files

Suddenly Excel 2016 when opening a spreadsheet will open the application with no actual workbook or sheet displaying. If opened in 2013 they open correctly. If I open 2016 and then hit, File>Open then it seems to work... I tried all the usual, allow macros and such, currently repairing office 365. Any ideas?

I had this issue too. It happened when I double clicked to open excel, but not when I navigated to the file from within Excel.

If I recall correctly, go to Files -> Options -> Advanced and unclick Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE). You may have to "toggle" it: set it close Excel, unset it close Excel.

I know that this was part of the solution. I can't recall the other things we (Microsoft Tech Support for 365) tried.

I had a quirk on my old machine that looked sort of like this. The workbook came up blank but by going from full screen view to Restore down it appeared. An annoyance I lived with for several years at work.
One spreadsheet to rule them all. One spreadsheet to find them. One spreadsheet to bring them all and at corporate, bind them.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but a sample spreadsheet is more likely to be worked on.
