    Un-Summarising my Form Data

So I have a table of response. The table has a column immediately to the left with row headers; and the table has a row immediately above with column headers.

I think the following request is extremely generic, and probably really common, but I can't imagine what to search to find the VBA code to achieve it.

I want VBA to generate a NEW table.

The new table will have 3 columns.

Column A will have the content of every cell in the original table; Column B will have the associated column header from the original table; and Column C will have the associated row header from the original table.

Is there a VBA code block you can point me to, such that I just input my original table range and get the result I'm looking for?

    Thanks

There probably is VBA code, if you feel you must use VBA for this. However, and I could be reading this wrong, what you describe seems to me to be an "unpivot" type of operation, which is probably easiest to do using Get and Transform/Power Pivot.

Does that look like what you are trying to do?

    No VBA code needed.

Select a cell in your table, or the entire table, and use Data / From Table (on the Get and Transform tab). In the new dialog that appears, choose all but the first column and click the Transform tab and choose 'Unpivot columns' Then click File / Close and Load and you're done.

    Re: Un-Summarising my Form Data

Incredible! "Unpivot"...... Wow. That was the concept in my mind, but I never thought googling that word would've given me the answer.

    Thanks all.

As a slight follow-up then: does anyone know of an easy way to unpivot "Microsoft Forms for Excel" data, and then Pivot it properly? I can do it manually now that I have this unpivot tool; but because Microsoft Form data is given in such a useless pivoted format, I have a feeling someone's built an adaptable tool to quickly get your data to where it needs to be. I need to apply the tool to a new set of Microsoft Forms data in excel on a regular basis.

What does MS Form Data mean? Could you upload an example workbook, showing what you have and what you want from it?

    Re: Un-Summarising my Form Data

I don't actually have one filled out with anonymous data so I can't share -- but Microsoft Forms exports to a table that is live linked to the form.

I know now that the unpivot process (as you recommended) works. But I ultimately now want to have the fewest possible steps to unpivot the table given to me by Microsoft Forms. I am certain I'm not the first perosn to want Microsoft Forms data unpivoted, so I just thought I'd put it out there and see if there was a simple process setup already

    Re: Un-Summarising my Form Data

MS Forms seems to be a relatively new product, that I have not seen talked about much around here. I am not sure we have anyone on here who is familiar with MS Forms and how it integrates with Excel (If we do, hopefully this will bump your thread back to the top and prompt them to respond).

While waiting for someone more familiar with MS Forms to comment, I will recommend a couple of the MS Forms support pages:
