Want to keep the Read Only message from appearing when read only file is opened

Found where the issue had been addressed and have linked to it. I am asking for someone to take pity on a 82 year old who seldom is in a situation where a macro is needed. Need one now but don't know how to put that solution to work for me. Believe doing a Alt & F11, selecting "This Workbook" and then selecting the panel on the right is the first step, but don't know what to do after that.
    Help appreciated!

    Please attach a sample workbook.
