    Lightbulb Converting xlsx to xlsb

    Hello all,

I recently discovered the benefits to converting Excel documents to XLSB (binary), mostly the cutting almost in half of file sizes.

I would like to apply this to some of my older files, but don't want to sit around resaving these documents.

That macro should be able to search through the whole C:\ drive find only the XLSX files open it and save it in .xlsb file format in the same folder with the same name by also retaining the original .xlsx file.

As always any direction on this would be great.

    Thank you in advance!

    Regards

    Re: Converting xlsx to xlsb

Your post does not comply with Rule 3 of our Forum RULES. Do not crosspost your question on multiple forums without including links here to the other threads on other forums.

Cross-posting is when you post the same question in other forums on the web. The last thing you want to do is waste people's time working on an issue you have already resolved elsewhere. We prefer that you not cross-post at all, but if you do (and it's unlikely to go unnoticed), you MUST provide a link (copy the url from the address bar in your browser) to the cross-post.

Expect cross-posted questions without a link to be closed and a message will be posted by the moderator explaining why. We are here to help so help us to help you!

Read this to understand why we ask you to do this, and then please edit your first post to include links to any and all cross-posts in any other forums (not just this site).

Please make sure to include the full link, so that other members will be permitted to continue helping you

Note that if you have fewer than 10 posts, you may need to type the link, or past it in pieces (or ask a mod to do that for you)

    See attached.
Select a folder that you want to save the XLSX As XLSB and push the button.
The macro makes a folder Converted and saves the XLSX as XLSB in this folder

    Re: Converting xlsx to xlsb

    @dotchie
IMO there is no need to make rules for who may, or may not post messages pertaining to the "housekeeping" of the forum.
This decision has been made by Admins/Mods and if what Kyle did was not authorized ( which is NOT the case) action would have been taken

Bottom line is that OP did not comply as requested and by cross posting without links members working for free on their spare time might be wasting their time and energy

OTOH having 180+ posts you MUST be aware of our rules about cross posting. If you are not, please refresh your memory.
I will soft-delete your post #6 and wait for OP to comply.

@plm,I am aware of your rules about cross posting,I don't like it either, but when I see a crossposting i post also the link, what I think is important.
And sorry, posting messages pertaining to the "housekeeping should be regulated and clear. In a Dutch forum where I am helper for years ,we had problems with will be moderators, and because of that, I reacted this way.

    Re: Converting xlsx to xlsb

The reason that Experts and Gurus are able to post these messages is because they have access to canned messages because of their elevated status. It is not their job to issue these messages, however it is perfectly acceptable for them to do so if they wish to where a housekeeping issue is perceived. If you wish to question anything like this, the correct way to do so is to PM a moderator or administrator to seek clarification.

As has already been mentioned, we will deal with anyone behaving inappropriately: this is not the case here, however. I hope this helps to explain what you might have perceived as an anomaly.

@AliGW,why am I not surprised to see a message from you here.
However, the question remains, where can I find this in the rules
I do not know what you mean to imply by your question. I am a moderator here - I may comment wherever I feel some clarification is required.

There is no written rule about who has access to the canned messages and, because of that, may use them. As I said, if you are in doubt, rather than violating a rule, check with a moderator first.

It may be that we need to add this to the forum guidelines, however as it is the only time I recall it being questioned, I am not sure it is really necessary.

Each forum has it's on "flavor" with regards to it's rules, and how they are enforced. Some forums are very strict, others are very lenient. We tend to be more middle of the road.

On this forum, senior members (including experts and gurus) assist mods and admin in maintaining order and ensuring rules are adhered to - this may not be the case on other forums, that is their prerogative, just as it is ours.

While we do value input from members in how we run this forum, that type of discussion should be conducted either through a PM to mods/admin, or even by starting a thread in the water cooler, to discuss your concerns. I can tell you right off though, that "I only listen to moderators and administrators" will not go down too well here

We have recently updated our rules, to make them shorter and easier to read. We will be adding more detailed explanations to them soon, and you comment will be taken into consideration when we get to that part f things.

I hope this clears things up for this, and the discussion can get back to assisting the OP - who STILL needs to provide a link for the x-posting.

I see no link posted to your x-post. I have also been informed of other instances where you have x-posted, and also not provided the necessary link, when requested to do so.

Our rules are fairly simple, but we expect them to be adhered to. If you cannot comply with this simple request, then perhaps removing your privileges on this forum for a few weeks would help you see what is required of you?
