Reading a input value from a message box

Is there a way to use MessageBox or some other built-in function to allow the user to enter a value? My macro needs a date value before it can run and it was originally getting this from the file name, but this is no longer the case. I really don't want to have to create a form so I was hoping there was a work around.

inputbox is simular as msgbox but as the name indicates can do more then show messages
