Hi,
I would like to find a way to automate blocking a velocity log in Excel. The attached file shows an example log (depth, velocity). The input log is sampled at small depth intervals eg half a foot and the velocity values will fluctuate with depth. I would like to convert the log to a "blocked" log - i.e. one having sections of constant velocity. The velocity depends on rock type and depth and the idea is that the log can be split into a number of depth sections (which will not be of equal length) that can be reasonably represented by a constant average velocity. So the aim is to use Excel to work out where these sections need to occur and the associated average velocity for each section. There will need to be some threshold value to control where the blocked depth intervals occur and the severity of the blocking (eg. % velocity change). There should also be a minimum depth interval for the blocking - eg all the depth intervals should be more than 300 ft.
The ideal outcome would be to be able to simply copy and paste a log into columns A and B and then run a VBA routine which will process the data and output a list of depths and the corresponding blocked velocities. I'm not sure how easy this will be - but perhaps someone has done something similar and can provide me with some pointers.
Cheers,
Hamang
