2 Cells With VLOOKUP, Circular reference - VBA Solution?

    Hello,

I want to give users of a form the option to populate one of 2 cells, with the other then populating with a LOOKUP. Obviously I get a circular reference but I am struggling to come up with a solution.

    GL Code | GL Decscription
    =IFERROR(VLOOKUP(G10, 'RS Budget'!Y:Z, 2, FALSE), "") | =IFERROR(VLOOKUP(F10, 'RS Budget'!X:Y, 2, FALSE), "")

    Welcome to the forum!

You cannot have a formula and the option to enter data in the same cell without overwriting the formula. Why not use data validation and create a drop-down list in the second column, leaving a formula in the first? Why do you need this either/or scenario?

Thank you, it's my first time here.

I want data validation in both. I basically want the user to have the option to input or select their "GL Code" if they know it, but I want them to be able to select a description of the code if they don't; with the "GL code" then automatically populating.

Yes, so I see. Interesting choice of user name.

What you want to do won't be possible without VBA. Shall I move this to the VBA section for you?

Aha! hat happens to be the first letters of my Surname and my initials - maybe I didn't think that through.

I thought that might be the case, I would appreciate it if you could please?

    Yes, you should do.

maybe I didn't think that through.
Maybe you didn't - your IP address is remarkably similar to someone else who was banned from here, so I am sure you will understand my being somewhat suspicious. Anyway, I have moved your thread for you.
