Hi,
I am trying to replicate the behavior of an .xlsm file I have. When I open it, I have a custom tab showing. However, if I go into the "customize ribbon" section, it's not there. There also doesn't seem to be any macro running on the workbook open event. Also looked in quick access toolbars and there's nothing... how is this happening???

All forum members are volunteers, who offer their time and expertise for free. You waited a little over 2 hours before giving up - I would suggest a little more patience on your side?

I very much appreciate that answers are coming from volunteers and I'm very thankful (or at least I would be) for any answers I get...
However, this is my 2nd post and my 1st is now 9 days old and still has no replies... so I'm 0/2 so far and figured I needed to try elsewhere.

I know it still has had no response, but also, you need to wait at least 24 hours before "bumping" your thread. It often happens that, when the forum gets busy, threads get pushed down the list onto lower-numbered pages, and out of regular viewing. When this happens, you should bump your thread, the next day, asking for assistance.

Press alt+F11 when you have the workbook open. As you can see there are a lot of modules/forms that are the ribbon itself.

With a quick look the ribbon seems to be built in module named ProjectMenu

The ribbon itself is created in the XML of the workbook. That vba is the code that is called from the ribbon.

Thanks rorya, I believe you're correct. I've seen the VBA that does the actions when the ribbon is pressed but I am looking for how the buttons get there in the first place. I am now looking into the embedded XML. I believe I can build this in Visual Studio. Although it will be my first project in VS, going to give that a try today and see if it works.

You don't really need Visual Studio as there are other applications for it, but if that's what you have to hand...
Right well actually I was just taking a look at that first link above (rondebruin) and am going to look into his suggestion to use a custom UI editor. I'll post my results... Thanks again!
OK final results are in... and the Custom UI editor works great!!! Was exactly what I was looking for. I can edit the ribbon of a particular excel file and the edits stay with the file on any machine. Now I can "Install" that file to have that tab show up on any machine (after installation) on any file (which was the ultimate goal all along).
