Smile Convert WORKSHEET/ CELL DATA for migration.

    HI there,

Thanks in advance if you’re able to help me 😊

I’m really struggling with the last step of a data transfer which requires that my spreadsheet data is converted into a certain format which can be understood by an HTML upload tool (unfortunately the tool doesn’t recognize .Csv).

    ______________

The data in the spreadsheet (attached) must be presented in the following format:

    ____people>
    ____person>
    ____title>Mr</title>
    ____firstname>MIKE</firstname>
    ____gender>M</gender>
    ____address1>STREET</street>
    ____address2>SOMEWHERE</address2>
    ____town>Smith</town>
    ____county> ross-shire</county>
    ____/person>
    ____person>
…. SAME AS ABOVE FOR NEXT ROW
    ____/ person >
    ____ person >
…. SAME AS ABOVE…TO FINAL ROW
    ____/ person >
    ____/people>

If you have any hints or tips on how to convert the data they would be greatly appreciated!

    Many thanks,
    Ross

That is not so much a HTML code, that is called a XML file format which is supported by excel, meaning you can create XML files from an excel file. you will need to create an XML mapping.
basicly XML is a more advanced version of a .csv as you have more control over where to put what information when importing into the target database.

read up on how to create xml

    or
    https://www.excel-easy.com/examples/xml.html

or just google for "create xml with excel" to get results more to your liking..

    Hi Roel,

Thanks very much for the input.

You're absolutely right. I'm sure this should be a lot easier than I'm finding it but alas, the Microsoft tool (XMLTool.exe) was designed for 2003 OS so isn't compatible with Office 365!. I'll let you know if I ever manage to create the XML Schema.

    Thanks,
    Ross
