Fastest way to copy ~20mb of data between 2 workbooks?

    Hi all,

having a local xlsx with 20mb worth of data (~400k x 20), what's the fastest way to get it in a master-workbook? The current time it takes to open-copy-and close the workbook lies in the ~12sec

Simple Copy-Paste seems like it might be slow. Reading to an array seems faster. I was wondering if there's yet another performance increase to be found - seems to me as if the longest time is spent by opening the file itself. Does anyone perhaps have some experience in reading a files contents without even opening it? Some ADODB perhaps?

    Thanks and best

You say your file is just data. So no special formats, gridlines, colors, etc?

If the file is just pure data, make sure by removing all formats. Home >> Editing >> Clear >> Clear Formats

After you have done this, save the file as .xlsb. In my experience, the file should reduce by 50% in size.
