The EnglishNumber function is making me crazy!

I am trying to get the EnglishNumber function to take a value from cell B4 and spell it out where I am typing the formula, in this case B10. I type the formula =EnglishNumber(B4) and I hit enter and just like magic, it works. Life is grand. I save the file as Book1 xlsm, as an example. I close the file. Moments later I re-open the file and change the value in cell B4 - say from 10 to 20 and hit enter - here is where the trouble begins. Now instead of woking like it did just moments before I get NAME?. If you select the cell you see a pop up that says The formula contains unrecognized text.

Nothing else has changed other than closing the file and re-opening it. No matter what changes I make - the formula never works again. If I create a new file - BOOM the magic happens again. I close the new file I created and re-open it and we are back to NAME? and it never works again. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I am using Office 365. This is the code I am using is attached as it would not let me post with the code in the body.


I don't know what else to try - can someone tell me what is happening before my brain turns to mush and leaks out my ears? Because that would be great!

Hi slider7420,

Seems like the User Defined Function (UDF) isn't being saved on a standard VBA module so next time when you open the file Excel returns NAME? as there's no native Excel function called EnglishNumber.

The attached works fine for me.

THANK YOU! That makes a lot of sense, but leads me into my next question - how do I fix this? Is this a settings issue or a problem with the software? Thanks again!

Did Trebor76's file open, and then work OK for you?

It's more likely to be a settings issue than a software one. First place to start is the Trust Center (File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings). Check your macro settings within here to make sure that they are not being disabled without notifications.

No, his file did not work for me. as soon as I opened in I got the name? error. When I go into trust center settings I get the following:

Apparently you are right about it being disabled without notification. I am reaching out to the system admin to see if I can get this resolved. Thanks!
