Listbox click slow with setting image

I populated my Listbox with the paths to some JPG files and set them into an image box . The problem is, whenever I click or use the arrow keys to select an item, the selecting of the item and loading of the image box is slow especially when the JPG file has a large size.
Now, is there a workaround that can make navigating through the listbox items to run at the normal pace while only the image box may take its own time to load?
So that pressing the down button can quickly select the next item
