Exclamation Differentiate shape (image) content ?

    Hello all,

I have exported an attendance report from our HR system (sample attached) trying to analyze number of leaves, sick leaves, other leave for my staff. However, the system shows a square above each cell either blank or with a tick mark as a shape (image) in the cell under each column. I tried to check if the size of the image differs when it is blank, the position etc. (as seen in sheet2) to differentiate between shapes but with no luck. I believe I am stuck as this is seen as picture but I just wanted to know if anyone could have any idea or work around that might help me reach my goal.

    Thank you

    Hello nankw83,

    Welcome to the Forum!

I have added the macro below to the attached workbook. Double Left click the cells in columns "I:O" to add or remove a tick mark.

Re: Differentiate shape (image) content ?

Thanks Leith Ross for the welcoming & the code. The code allows me to double click a cell & it will insert a tick mark which is nicely done & I will be using this for something else but for my current situation, it unfortunately doesn't help me achieve my goal. The data exported from HR system with an image shaped as a square with either a tick mark or blank which I can't use for filter or any excel functions. With the code you provided, I would have to check cell by cell manually to compare with the image & double click the cell if the image was showing a tick mark.

Again, thank you for the efforts to put this code together & for your help

    Question

    Hi !

The dumb who created this does not like Excel or maybe does not ever opened it, dumb of the month, maybe of the year ‼

As there are some ways (you can yet find out on Web) but much ado about nothing, some gas factory VBA codes, so

    1. obviously is it possible to not export any blank image ? Or to export text instead of any picture ?

    2. As all images have a .png name, maybe they stil exist on the hard drive so the gas factory code may be reduced
instead of for each picture to save it to the disk then import as bytes in order to compare or
modify the source blank picture reference in order to easily differentiate it, just warming a couple of neurons …

    Hello nankw83,

I have to ask why would anyone would export data using pictures for tick marks? Basically. it renders the worksheet non-functional. First, it requires a lot of memory and second, it is not easy to differentiate images. If you want to save the tick marks then use a capital "X" (Unicode &H58) instead. It will appear the same on any machine using the Windows Western character set.

I realize this does not solve your immediate problem. I am including in case you want to use this later or pass it up the line.
Here is the macro modified to use "X" instead of ""

Re: Differentiate shape (image) content ?

Marc, it is frustrating ! I guess they do hate excel :p ... Perhaps HR cared about the web based report & they vendor said there's an ability to export the report in multiple formats such as excel, PDF, word ... etc. but no one tested it or cared about such thing.

Leith, I have no idea why they're doing it this way ... It is sad

Thank you both for your input
