Stay in same cell until data is entered

I have a spreadsheet that has a drop-down box. If the user selects over 3 days from this and enters how can I stop them moving on without entering data into the new cell. (I want them to enter a reason for why it's over 3 days) if they don't enter a reason then they can't move on.

    Hello melverz,

There are many different ways to do this. Best would be if we could see what you have, and how you want it.

Please attach a sample workbook (not a picture or pasted copy). Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and then scroll down to Manage Attachments to open the upload window.

Re: Stay in same cell until data is entered

    Hi
I have attached a copy of what I need. Row 2 is correct and this is how I would like it to look. Row 3 is incorrect and this is what I am trying to stop. When we receive a referral we should be making an appointment within 3 days. If the number of days is over 3 days as per column F then they need to select reason in Column G from the drop down box. I would like to stop them moving past this unless they have selected a choice from the drop down box. If they select Customer choice I need them to enter a reason in column H again stopping them from moving past this until a comment is added. I did have conditional formats in place that came up with a warning for G & H but it's being ignored. Row 4 is also correct as its under 3 days so no comments are required. Hope this makes sense.

Re: Stay in same cell until data is entered

    Hi
Sorry for the delay in getting back. This works to an extent and I have been able to use this for other cells in the spreed sheet and it works great. The problem is this relies on the person entering data into the next cell. Thinking about it I should have left the appointment attendance column off as this may have confused things. This spreed sheet is a 2 part process. The staff fill out the first part up to the reason why over 3 days then the rest is filled out at a later date. It works if they are putting more than one appointment on as I have been able to use your solution at the start of the next line which lets them know they have note filled that part out. If they are only putting one appointment on and then saving it it doesn't work. I need something that will flag up and stop them moving on or saving it if they click out of that cell without entering the data. Thanks for the solution so far as its worked great for the rest of the sheet.

    Hello melverz,

Sorry for the late response. I somehow missed following up on your Thread.

Moving out of a cell can be done but it is quite cumbersome, since the spreed sheet is a 2 part process. The staff fill out the first part up to the reason why over 3 days then the rest is filled out at a later date.. So I have decided to concentrate on Saving or Closing the Workbook with incomplete Data as per your requirement.

Please add the Codes below to your ThisWorkbook_Event, in the VBE.

Please see the attached sample Workbook for clearer understanding.
